EDMOND — Go get a smoothie and help Edmond Public Schools raise funds. It’s a rather unusual fundraising idea, but one whose goal is as lofty as it is inventive — to raise six figures for Edmond Public Schools in a single day.

It’s a simple but radical event from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. April 27 at JuiceBlendz at 1200 W. Covell. A fundraising competition between Edmond area schools with a huge giveback percentage, a matching funds grand prize up to $100,000, for the school that raises the most funds and 50 percent of smoothie sales from an entire Saturday will be donated to the cause. Every school wins whatever funds they raise.

Local media personalities, athletes and business or civic leaders from the community will be “guest blenders.” A special website, videos and social media will be created to help schools share the word, rally the community and raise the most money. Rumble the Bison from the Oklahoma City Thunder will be there to excite the crowd.

“We see this as a way to use our resources to their greatest ability to help our kids and our community,” said Ashley Hughes, co-owner of JuiceBlendz. “We’re taking Saturday, April 27th from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and donating 50 percent of smoothie sales of customers who tell us which school they want to support. While schools get everything they raise, the school that raises the most money gets a grand prize matching check — up to $100,000. And everyone who helps us get the word out about the event gets a free smoothie.

“We look forward to the success this event will create for schools. Our hope is to use this as a model to help school districts and organizations across Oklahoma.”

This effort is being spearheaded by JuiceBlendz Café and The Transformation Agency as a “transformational” public-private partnership to help schools raise money.
